The School of Chemical Engineering is committed to implement a quality policy that supports the academic profile and orientation of both its Undergraduate Program and the Postgraduate Interdisciplinary Programs (IDPs) that it coordinates or participates in. In this context, it promotes their scope, implements their strategic objectives and determines the means and methods of achieving them, and applies the appropriate quality procedures, with the ultimate goal of their continuous improvement. The implementation of the School’s quality policy is linked to the corresponding NTUA strategy.

The mission of the School of Chemical Engineering is to educate young engineers, so that they acquire the knowledge and ability to apply the principles of basic sciences, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology, technical sciences, as well as economic/social sciences, in the design, development and optimization of processes, systems and products in their fields of activity, such as materials technology, energy production and use and environmental protection.

An integral part of the School’s mission is the production of new knowledge in Chemical Engineering in contemporary international trends, not only in established areas but also in emerging ones, having an intense interdisciplinary character.

The aim of the School of Chemical Engineering through the PIPPs that either coordinates or participates in is to provide high-level studies, focused on the integrated and interdisciplinary approach, research and handling of multidimensional developmental and social problems, as well as supporting the competitiveness of the Greek economy through the production of competent and specialized engineers. By developing high-level postgraduate studies, an attempt is made to retain the potential of postgraduate students and researchers within the country.

The ambition of the PIPP-ESAS is to shape a new generation of specialized professionals and engineers with a deep knowledge of emerging energy technologies and a great understanding of their role in the transition to a sustainable future, contributing to the mission of the coordinating Chemical Engineering School. Focusing on renewable gaseous and liquid energy carriers, such as hydrogen, biomethane, synthetic fuels and ammonia, the Program strengthens the know-how for their production, storage, transportation and utilization.

The strategic objectives of the EDPMS “Energy Systems and Sustainability” include:

  • strengthening the position of the graduates of the Program in the domestic and international labor market,
  • linking young engineering and scientists to the long-term needs of the economy and society in the context of the energy transition and the desired reduction of the carbon footprint,
  • retaining the potential of young graduates within the country through the establishment of high-level postgraduate studies,
  • increasing the international competitiveness and extroversion of Greek universities through the provision of high-level studies, focused on the integrated and interdisciplinary approach to modern multidimensional problems,
  • developing the research capabilities of the Program graduates so that they contribute to the production of new knowledge and innovation.

The action plan of the School of Chemical Engineering and the PIPP-ESAS for continuous quality monitoring, ensuring achievement of goals and continuous improvement for qualitative educational services are aligned with the strategic goals of NTUA in developing new postgraduate study programs and include:

  • leverage of both human potential and available infrastructure of the School for the education of young engineers,
  • collaboration with NTUA’s School of Mechanical Engineering to ensure the interdisciplinary and comprehensive nature of the provided knowledge,
  • invitation of distinguished scientists/researchers/technologists to participate at the lecture series organized within the framework of the Program,
  • transfer of experience between postgraduate students, who consist of both experienced executive officers of the Funding Agency as well as newly graduated engineers without experience of the labor market
  • monitoring of Program graduates, through the NTUA Liaison Office,
  • continuous cooperation with the Center of Teaching and Learning (KE.ΔΙ.MA.) of NTUA, whose mission is to promote innovative teaching and didactics methods,

For the implementation of the quality policy, the Program seeks to establish procedures for:

  • the continuous improvement of the structure and organization of the Program curriculum
  • the pursuit of learning outcomes and qualifications in accordance with the European and National Qualification Framework for Higher Education,
  • the promotion of the quality and effectiveness of teaching,
  • the qualifications of the teaching staff,
  • the dissemination of the research work elaborated by its teaching staff
  • the interconnection of teaching and research
  • the quality of NTUA student support services, such as administrative services, libraries and student welfare services,

Quality assurance and continuous improvement of the PIPP rely on the Program Director and are both secured by the close cooperation of the PIPP governing bodies with the School of Chemical Engineering Internal Evaluation as well as the School’s and the Senate’s Committees for Postgraduate Studies.
